It’s a pandemic – imposter syndrome is everywhere!

This month has been a whirlwind of conversations! I’ve been at networking events left, right, and centre—morning, noon, and night—both in-person and online. I recorded two episodes of my ‘Strings To Your Bow’ podcast and I’ve started to work with a few different companies. And after all this talking and mingling, there’s one thing that’s become crystal clear: imposter syndrome is everywhere. It doesn’t care who you are, or what you do, and guess what? It’s definitely not just me feeling it.

Honestly, I haven’t met a single person who isn’t carrying some form of imposter syndrome with them. It shows up in all sorts of ways—sometimes it’s a little throwaway comment, other times it’s a cautious social media post, or even someone avoiding the spotlight because they think they’re not “interesting enough.” It can be subtle or in-your-face, funny, or downright heartbreaking. For those of us who are self-employed, it can make us question if we’ve chosen the right path. For employees, it can lead to holding back in meetings or keeping opinions to themselves. It’s just a very human thing.

So, after reflecting on month two, I’ve come to realise that imposter syndrome is just something I’m going to have to live with—and I’ve decided I’m okay with that. In fact, it’s not all bad. It helps me connect with others, keeps me grounded, and even gives me something to laugh about. As long as I can recognise when it’s creeping up on me and take care of myself—whether that’s going for a run, treating myself to some chocolate, chatting with someone I love, or enjoying a glass (or let’s be honest, a bottle) of wine—I think I’ll be able to handle it just fine. No need to worry too much!
