Let’s Talk About Talking: Why Communication is Everything in Business

Communication. It’s the thing that keeps businesses ticking, teams connected, and relationships thriving—and yet, it’s one of the hardest things to get right.

Get it wrong and frustration brews.

Get it right and suddenly… things just work.

But here’s the challenge: everyone communicates differently.

Some people love WhatsApp. Others would rather delete the app altogether. Some adore a good voice note; others avoid the “record” button like the plague. There are phone-call people, email-thread people, emoji-users, bullet-point-only types, and everything in between.

Then there’s the format:

📞 Verbal or written?

🖥️ Remote or in person?

🎨 Visual, detailed, sparse, informal, corporate?

The list goes on.

So how do you keep communication flowing when we’re all playing a slightly different game?

For me, the answer is flexibility—with a few ground rules.

I’ll happily adapt to your preferred method of communication. You like voice notes? Cool, send them over. Prefer a quick call? Let’s chat. Love a long-form email? I'm all ears (and eyes).

But there are two things I always do, no matter what:

  1. I confirm my understanding in writing.

Not because I love typing (although I kind of do 😅), but because having a shared reference point is gold. It prevents miscommunication and helps everyone stay on the same page.

  2. I confirm when a task is done—in writing.

Again, this isn’t about being overly formal—it’s about clarity. You’ll never be left wondering, “Did that ever get sorted?” because I’ll let you know, nice and clear.

That’s it. Beyond those two, I’ll follow your lead.

Because great communication isn’t about forcing people into your preferred style—it’s about meeting them where they are, building trust, and making sure nothing slips through the cracks.

If you’re a fellow business owner juggling clients, emails, calls, and more, I’d love to hear your approach. Do you have communication rules that keep your world running smoothly?
