As 2025 comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and start thinking about the year ahead. At Andiamo Business Assistance, I wanted to do something a little different this December — something that genuinely supports self-employed business owners and small business leaders in their planning and goal-setting for 2026.
That’s why I created the Countdown to 2026: 28 days of advice from guests on the Strings to Your Bow podcast, sharing their experiences, lessons, and reflections. From Season 1 Episode 1 all the way to Season 4 Episode 7, these insights are designed to help you think bigger, plan smarter, and embrace the next chapter of your business journey.
Here’s a round-up of some of the most inspiring takeaways from the series.
1. Follow Your Passions
Helen Hill (S1E1) reminded us: "People often say you shouldn’t turn your hobbies into your business… but bringing my hobbies into my work is exactly what stops it feeling like work."
Joy and passion aren’t distractions — they’re fuel. As you plan for 2026, think about what you love doing and how it could play a bigger role in your business.
2. Challenge ‘Shoulds’
Jamie Pei (S1E2) highlighted the importance of questioning expectations: "We all get to a point where we confront other people’s ‘shoulds’ — and start to ask why. "Growth often starts when you stop blindly following the rules others have set. Reflect on which ‘shoulds’ are shaping your decisions — and which you’re ready to let go of.
3. Authenticity is Your Superpower
Multiple guests reminded us that being genuine is key:
Michelle Harrison (S1E3) said: "I am who I am… I’m genuine… I’m always my true self in every scenario."
Alex Beaumont (S1E7) explained: "When we can be authentic, and are doing something that’s right for us, we get the best version of ourselves!"
Cecilia Costello (S3E7) added: "I don’t believe that you can have a successful business unless you are true to yourself."
Authenticity builds trust, strengthens connections, and ensures your business reflects your values.
4. Resilience and Learning from Challenges
Hayley Levene (S3E3) shared a vital mindset: "I think it’s very important to stay resilient and strong and look at every rejection as a way to learn."
Similarly, Sarah Clough (S4E3) reminded us: "You need adversity to make you appreciate the good things."
Setbacks aren’t the end — they’re opportunities to grow stronger, smarter, and more adaptable.
5. Take Small, Purposeful Steps
Manu Thomas (S4E5) gave a simple but profound insight: "Small steps drive success…"
Big leaps are exciting, but sustainable progress comes from consistent, manageable actions — the small wins that compound over time.
6. Build Supportive Networks
Dani McCormack (S1E6) reflected on the power of encouragement: "My mum is my biggest fan! I could go to her with the craziest idea and she’d just say ‘go for it’!"
And Candy Squire-Watt (S2E2) reminded us: "There’s nothing untoward about needing a bit of help now and again…"
No business thrives in isolation. Surround yourself with supporters, mentors, and collaborators.
7. Courage, Timing, and Flexibility
Several guests highlighted the importance of taking risks and trusting your journey:
Anna Clewlow (S4E2): "Looking back, I wish I’d had the guts to just go for it!"
Laura McDermott (S4E1): "If you are open, willing to take risks, happy to change and self-aware, things will happen when they need to happen."
Kirsty Morris (S4E7): "Life is not linear… it’s bumps in the road."
The path to success isn’t straight, but staying open, flexible, and courageous ensures you’re ready for opportunities when they arise.
Reflections for 2026
Across the 28 days, common themes emerged: authenticity, resilience, trust, courage, creativity, support, and the power of small steps.
As you reflect on 2025, consider:
Where did you show up as your authentic self?
What lessons did challenges teach you?
Who supported you — and how can you strengthen those relationships?
What small steps could make the biggest impact in 2026?
Growth happens when we show up — imperfectly, honestly, and consistently — for the life and business we want to build.
