At Andiamo, January Isn’t a Fresh Start – It’s a Slow Restart

At Andiamo, January isn't a fresh start - it's a slow restart

January is a strange month, isn’t it?

It arrives with all this expectation attached to it – fresh starts, big plans, this is the year energy – but in reality it tends to shuffle in quietly, clutching a half-finished to-do list and asking for a bit of grace.

After the build-up to Christmas – the deadlines, the shopping, the logistics, the socialising, the family juggling – January feels like the collective exhale. Everyone needs a slow start. The first week is basically a write-off because no one can see past Christmas, and anything that does happen feels like a surprise. You didn’t plan it because planning felt impossible, and yet… here we are.

Then the kids go back to school and the lurgies arrive. Coughs, colds, sniffles. All good intentions quietly leave the building. Early mornings and gym routines are replaced with tissues and cancelled plans.

And then, somewhere around the middle of the month, the mood shifts.

People panic.

Two weeks have vanished. Suddenly the things that “couldn’t possibly be discussed yet” are now urgent. The shiny new year, new you narrative starts to fade, and normal life resumes. Emails pick up. Decisions get made. The engine turns back on.

For Andiamo Business Assistance, January has been a bit of a mixed bag – in the best possible way.

There have been a couple of new customers, an event, and starting a new Business Accelerator course. I found out I’d won an award (always nice). I’ve been recording season 6 of Strings To Your Bow. We launched the new Gracie Glass Bingley website, alongside workshops and 1-to-1 tuition. There was a birthday. There was a lurgy. It’s all been in there.

Some days have been steady and reflective. Others have been properly busy. I’ve been catching up on my to-do list while sitting on trains, meeting people for the first time, and reconnecting with familiar faces. It’s felt less like a dramatic fresh start and more like quietly, intentionally building on the foundations already laid for 2025.

And honestly? That feels right.

January doesn’t need to be loud or transformational. Sometimes it’s just about easing back in, finding your rhythm again, and letting momentum build naturally. Slow starts are still starts. Mixed bags can still be good months.

If this January hasn’t felt shiny or perfect, you’re not doing it wrong. You’re just doing January.
