Six Months of Andiamo Business Assistance: Reflecting on Growth, Gratitude, and Taking Control

ree

Time flies when you’re building something you love—and just like that, Andiamo Business Assistance is officially six months old! It’s been an incredible journey, and while self-employment is undeniably hard work, it’s given me a freedom I never thought possible in a traditional PAYE role. The long hours and responsibility can be intense, but the ability to shape my days, balance work with life, and focus on what truly matters has made it all worthwhile.

One of the biggest concerns people often have about self-employment is financial stability. But let’s face it—the chaotic world we live in constantly reminds us that stability isn’t something others can guarantee. Whether it’s a sudden restructuring, economic downturn, or unexpected changes, the illusion of security can crumble in an instant. No one can say that self-employment is easy, but it’s empowering to know that the future is in my hands.

Andiamo’s growth so far has been beyond my expectations. A whopping 90% of my customers have come through word-of-mouth recommendations—a testament to the trust and support I’ve been lucky enough to earn. To everyone who’s referred me, cheered me on, or shared a kind word: thank you.

This month, I also hit a personal milestone—I turned 45! I made sure to take a couple of days off to celebrate with a mix of my favourite things: spending time with family, a few runs, a swim, meals out, a cinema trip, and some creative time in my Shedio, dreaming up ideas for the 2025 Gracie Glass Bingley exhibition.

Am I middle-aged now? Maybe, but I’m not claiming that title just yet. My nan lived to 96, so I figure I’ve got a few more years before I fully lean into that label! Sure, I feel my age in the mirror, and I definitely feel my age when running up hills, but my soul still feels like it’s in its late teens or early twenties. That said, my forties have been transformative. My confidence has grown, my priorities are crystal clear, and I’ve embraced the mindset that life’s too short to settle for less than happiness.

What’s next for Andiamo? This month, I’ve onboarded a fantastic new client and had some promising conversations with two more small local businesses. Over the next six months, I’m aiming to hire an accountant (because no one wants to spend their weekends looking at spreadsheets) and finally sort out my website. By the time Andiamo celebrates its first anniversary, I want to have the foundations rock solid.

If you’re on the fence about self-employment, let me say this: it’s hard work, but it’s also deeply rewarding. Taking control of your own path can be daunting, but it’s the surest way to create something meaningful and lasting. Here’s to the next six months—and beyond!
